Primary school is generally our introduction to formal lessons – although some parents take a different route and choose to home-school their children. Primary school is an important stage in the learning journey when children start to pick up the basic skills they will need throughout their lives – reading, writing and numeracy – as well as developing their social skills and emotional intelligence through lessons and play.
Giving children the right support and encouragement at this stage is vital. Parents and carers as well as teachers have a key role to play in motivating and engaging children in learning and school life, so they can become independent learners.
